This survey aims to collect experiences and best practices on bioeconomy solutions generated by and applicable in the Southern developing countries, in order to learn from and better equip the global South in addressing climate change and in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Information on relevant South-South and triangular Cooperation’s experiences, best practices and success stories on bioeconomy and climate change (cases related to both mitigation and adaptation) is welcome.

Bioeconomy is defined, for the purposes of this survey, as a set of economic activities related to the invention, development, production and use of biological products and/or processes for the production of renewable energy, materials and chemicals.

In recent years, there has been and increasing exchange of SSC experiences and knowledge on the development and implementation of innovative approaches to remove barriers to expanding the sustainable use of the global South’s abundant biomass resources, while maximizing economic, social, and environmental benefits.

The best experiences will be compiled in a publication to be launched at COP 25, in Santiago, as a partnership between UNOSSC and CGEE. The publication will assemble best practices from different regions of the world related to bioeconomy that have significant impacts in the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda and in the global fight against climate change.

Selected solutions will also be featured on the South-South Galaxy – a global knowledge sharing and partnership brokering platform for South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

Involving two or more developing countries, it can take place on a bilateral, regional, intraregional or interregional basis. Recent developments in South-South cooperation have taken the form of increased volume of South-South trade, South-South flows of foreign direct investment, movements towards regional integration, technology transfers, sharing of solutions and experts, and other forms of exchanges. Triangular cooperation is collaboration in which traditional donor countries and multilateral organizations facilitate South-South initiatives through the provision of funding, training, management and technological systems as well as other forms of support.
